A common species across the region.

Most numerous in short-grazed grassland but also in parks and gardens.

Overwinters as a pupa. More commonly seen as the distinctive larva. Adults fly during the day but also come to light.

Note Burnets, with which they fly during the day, are more thick-set and have much more thickened antennae.
